Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has praised India’s “team-first” approach. Gavaskar said the way India chased the target in the first ODI against Afghanistan was commendable. Former captain Sunil Gavaskar praised India’s team-first approach after comfortably chasing down a difficult target against Afghanistan in the rain-affected first ODI in Dharamsala, saying the batsmen made the match look easy. India won the rain-affected match, which was reduced to 25 overs, by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Gavaskar said that the way KL Rahul batted during the chase shows that players believe in collective success rather than individual achievements. Gavaskar said, “Zia-ur-Rahman had conceded only 19 runs in three overs before his final over. Rahul scored 20 runs in that over. Shubman Gill then needed 21 runs to reach his century, and the team needed around 30 runs to win. Rahul took charge. This shows that players prioritize the team more than individual achievements. It’s about what each player can do for the team. Winning the match in the 23rd over shows how well the target was chased. It wasn’t an easy target, but he made it look easy because he prioritized the team.”

Sunday marked the final day of the Summer Vacation Football Coaching Camp organized by the Football Lovers Welfare Society. On the final day, a friendly football match was held at the Robert Pavilion ground, in which the players displayed their strength. Afterward, society officials honored the 100 children who participated in the camp with special T-shirts and certificates. Parents were also delighted by the children’s dedication to the sport. The society also provided nutritious meals for the children and their parents. The children received training from former football players, and they stayed away from their mobile phones. Rakesh Kumar, the society’s joint secretary, stated that during this camp, former football players, including Naresh Kumar, taught the children the tricks of football. He added that the primary objective of this summer camp was to bring children back to the field during the holidays, away from the world of mobile phones and screens, to foster a sense of sportsmanship. Similar camps will be held in the future to nurture grassroots football talent.

Sports lovers and budding athletes will have a chance to hone their talents. Preparations have begun for the construction of a modern sports complex in the Ugada-Bada area under the Sadar Municipal Council, Ambala. The detailed project report (DPR) for this project, to be built at a cost of approximately ₹27.93 crore, has been prepared. Approximately 10 acres of land for the sports stadium is available under the Municipal Council’s jurisdiction. Initially, plans were made to build a cowshed at this site, but later plans were made to convert it into a playground. According to department sources, the consultant appointed for the project has submitted his detailed report to the Municipal Council. This report is currently being closely examined by senior administration officials. After reviewing the technical aspects and budget provisions, it will be sent to the government for final approval.

After an all-weather 10-lane swimming pool, the budding swimmers in Ambala are set to get two new seasonal pools in the district. While a 50-metre 10-lane seasonal swimming pool is constructed in Ambala City, another 25-metre 5-lane seasonal swimming pool has been constructed in the Baragarh stadium in Naraingarh. Both swimming pools have been constructed under the CM announcements. At present, there are around 250 trained swimmers in the district, of which nearly 80 are state-level and national-level swimmers in Ambala who participate in various swimming competitions. Though, the new seasonal pools will bring a respite for the budding swimmers of Ambala City and Naraingarh as they don’t have to travel long for the government facility, smooth operations of the swimming pools have been a major task of the Sports Department.
