Following complaints of financial irregularities, fake membership, and violations of rules in the operation of the Shri Shiv Mandir Sabha located in Matidas Nagar, the District Registrar has taken serious action. The department removed the current management and appointed an administrator to manage the affairs of the Sabha and conduct fair elections. On Sunday, the administrator held a meeting with the Sabha members and directed former President Pravesh Sobti to submit all documents related to the Sabha by Tuesday. Local residents of Matidas Nagar (Ward No. 10) and members of the Mandir Sabha submitted a written complaint to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDM), Cantonment, on April 7, 2026. The complainants alleged that the Sabha’s President, Pravesh Kumar Sobti, and his associates were misappropriating the temple’s property and donations from the donation box. When members requested accounting records, they were not provided.
Furthermore, accounts were being maintained in the temple’s name in two different banks (Indian Bank and the Co-operative Society). For years, donation slips issued to individuals bore the old registration number 1372, which was not valid at the District Registrar’s office. Furthermore, over 200 fake members were enlisted, flouting regulations, and the organization’s income tax returns had not been filed for 12-15 years. The Registrar ordered an investigation. Upon receiving a complaint through the SDM, the District Registrar (Firms and Societies) examined the records, revealing shocking facts. The investigation revealed that the society had completely failed to re-register under the Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012.
