Ambala industrial township to boost development, generate employment.

With the final approval given by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for establishing an industrial model township (IMT) in Ambala, the long pending project is expected to take off soon. Establishing an industrial model township in Ambala has been a long pending project as well as a poll issue in the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections. The issue finds a special mention in the speeches of senior leaders during the poll campaigns as the project will not only help in setting up new industries, accelerate development, it will also generate employment for the younger generations. During the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government, former Union Minister Venod Sharma had got the project approved for Ambala. However, following protests by the Opposition and infighting within the Congress, the project was shelved. Venod Sharma had criticised the Congress from public stages for cancelling the project. Though the project was shelved, it continued to be one of major poll promises in Ambala for years, with Venod Sharma and former minister of State and BJP leader Aseem Goel, both pushing for the project in Ambala at their respective levels. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had also promised to build the IMT if voted to power during the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Ambala’s scientific industry seeks govt help to regain competitive edge.

Amid rapid technology upgrade, stiff competition and infrastructural bottlenecks, the scientific apparatus manufacturing industry of Ambala is seeking government’s help to regain its competitive edge. There are over 2,000 units in Ambala Cantonment engaged in the manufacturing of glassware, electronic products, educational instruments and other scientific apparatus, and has an annual turnover of over Rs 3,000 crore. The manufacturers also believe that the Ambala scientific instruments industry has lost its competitive edge due to dependence on China. Glass tubing, glassware products, microscope, fiberglass models and other products are coming from China. Back in 2022, the late Ambala MP Rattan Lal Kataria had urged the Central Government in Lok Sabha to save the industry from China. Kataria had stated “China has captured around 45 per cent business of Ambala’s scientific industry. If skilled labour is not provided and imports from China is not stopped, the Ambala industry will perish.”

BJP-Congress set for fierce battle in Haryana civic polls

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition Congress are gearing up for a high-stakes contest in the upcoming municipal polls in Panchkula, Ambala, and Sonipat, likely to be held in April this year. State Election Commissioner (SEC) Devinder Singh Kalyan issued a notification on Monday, announcing March 27 as the date for the final publication of electoral rolls for the three civic bodies, paving the way for a direct BJP-Congress showdown. This will be the first major electoral face-off between the two parties since Congress’s surprise defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections, where the BJP secured three consecutive victories in the state. Officials said the ward-wise final electoral rolls will enable the SEC to issue a formal notification to kick-start the election process. The state government has already approved conducting the long-awaited polls. Bye-elections in these constituencies were held along with eight other municipalities in January 2025, where the BJP swept the mayoral seats, consolidating its administrative vision at the Centre, state, and local levels.
